MEMBER ROLES AND SHARING GUIDELINES

Giftor: (known to Giftee) = the person who gave the plant cutting | Giftors may have paid individual or family memberships, can create their own Plantcestry Lines and gift their cuttings. Giftors will have access to information about their Giftor and their own Giftees.

Giftee: (known to Giftor) = the person who received the plant cutting | Giftees have free memberships | Giftees can share and track cuttings from previously gifted plants. Giftees will have access to information about their Giftor and their own Giftees.

Plantcestor: (may be unknown to Giftee) = others sharing the same plant line, but who may not know each other. Plantcestors will have limited location information based upon membership level to see their own or others’ Plant Lines

Original Plant: The first plant in a Plant Line for a Plantcestry Giftor. This would be a plant grown from seed, a plant purchased from a nursery, or a plant new to a Giftor. Original plants are listed as “generation 1” and all following generations will increase by 1.

Plant Line: All propagations and generations from the same Original Plant.

Source:  A source, if known, is the place where the Giftor purchased or the person from whom the Giftor obtained the Original Plant. In the case of the hierarchy of Plantcestry's plants, the first generation is the Original Plant Line and the source would be the place or person it came from. Just as for people, the Source would be the country where a first generation immigrant's parents came from.

Plantcestor Map: The Plantcestor Map may show the location of a plant based on address, zip code or latitude / longitude within the Plantcestry Platform. Names of owners will be shown to members based on the members’ preference and membership level; otherwise, plant locations will show membership number. Public map viewing will never include contact or personal information beyond showing plant locations by zip code and member number.

Plantcestry Partners

Organizational: Organizational Members are organizations that partner with Plantcestry to match plants and plant cuttings to its members. For instance, a nursing home, hospital, or nonprofit may partner to match cuttings with its members.

Influencer: Influencer Members are individuals who have blogs, websites or other social media platforms that provide plant and plant sharing tips and information.

Sponsor: Sponsor Members are organizations or businesses unrelated to the plant industry who would like to market to Plantcestry Members or promote their services on the Plantcestry public website.

Industry:
Industry Members are plant or plant supply sources who would like to offer discounts or other benefits to Plantcestry members.

Sharing Plants

Sharing Philosophy: All members agree to share propagations as gifts, not sell them. When registering a new propagation, each Giftee must confirm their plant was received as a gift, not purchased. Members who sell propagations instead of gifting will have their membership terminated without refund (if applicable), and their plant lines will be removed. The only exception is Original Plant Lines (OPLs), which may be purchased so they can then be gifted forward.

Plant Health:
Plantcestry is a platform for anyone to share plants and enjoy the results. Therefore, plants are shared in good faith from Giftors who will make their best effort to make sure they are sharing healthy plants. However, there is no guarantee that a Giftee will receive a healthy plant.

Shipping Plants: Giftors may want to ship plants to friends and family. Giftors must abide by all Federal and State rules and regulations and ensure that they are in compliance with mailing regulations, and holds Plantcestry harmless from any law violation. More information about shipping plants is provided in Resources and in our "Terms of Use".

Posting Photos: Posted photos must be of the plant only or the plant and the Giftee or Giftor. No stock or copyrighted photos are permitted.

Toxic Plants: Plantcestry is not responsible for plants shared which may be toxic to animals or people. It is the Member's responsibility to acknowledge and ensure that Giftees are informed not to accept plants which may put them, family members, or pets at risk. Giftees are responsible for researching whether a plant is appropriate for their family, pets, and living environment.

In addition to the above, Plantcestry members must agree to the "Terms of Use", "Privacy Policy" and "Member Agreement".
